So, the other night at the Coldplay concert, there were a few times when the crowd got into the music and sang along. On one or two occasions, they became bold enough to even tackle a chorus or two on their own. What was surprising to me was how good they sounded and it made me wonder how they pulled it off. After a few seconds of intense contemplation, I think I have a plausible theory, and I present it for your consideration...

In short, the reason why crowds at concerts sound so good when they sing is because most of the crowd (a.k.a. the folks who can't sing and want to keep that fact to themselves) doesn't.
