I know this journal has essentially become an American Idol blog. I didn't intend for it to become one, at least not exclusively, so I apologize for the lack of non-American Idol related content. I have plenty to write about -- a new car, a baseball game, a weekend in Henry Coe State Park, and developments in my life, but I've handed over too much control to my inner-perfectionist , who wants to hold onto every idea and story until I've come up with the funniest and most creative way to share it. This week, I hope to take back the reins and set some of the ideas and stories free. But before I do, tonight is another episode of American Idol (in roughly fifteen minutes). So, stay tuned, another hour of off-the-cuff writing about other people singing is on its way.

hey, i personally do not mind the AI updates, as you know!! :)

also, i think it's fine that they chose jamie foxx as mentor on rat pack night (not to be confused with pack rat) considering, as kris so eloquently put it, everyone else is "dead." :p

anyways, onto the contestants.....

kris: thought he did a swell job. i have nothing bad to say about him or his performance. was it memorable? eh. at this point, it seems more about how many fans he has. oh, and his dimples. niiiice. :)

allison: it was technically good, i thought, although she's not charming enough to win this. especially with adam, et al in the competition. well, mainly just adam. i am going to agree with you that she may be in trouble tonight.

matt: you know, dawg, it was actually kind of pitchy in parts. again, i agree with you, the weakest of the night, and i don't know what simon was talking about. sometimes it's like he says things just to disagree with randy.

danny: either he wears contacts half the time, or his glasses are purely for fashion purposes only. he has a good voice, but he never disappoints there. the problem with tonight is, everyone did well (yes, even matt, though he was a bit "off" in parts), so it really comes down to fan base, as it inevitably does.

adam: he got the "pimp" spot, as some forums refer to the last performance of the night, which, traditionally has been the one to watch (you know, except when AI goes over by 8 minutes, and DVR users across the country are cheated). anyways...... he's awesome as usual. what *would* be shocking is if he does not get crowned the ultimate winner this year.

bottom 2: allison and matt (agreed here!). i actually don't care which one of them goes, though technically, matt did the worst.

side note: i see your "songs from broadway" and raise you one tv theme song night! matt can do the "scrubs" theme- "i'm no superman". adam... maybe a goth version of "malcolm in the middle"- TMBG's "you're not the boss of me." danny gokey would do the theme from "greatest american hero" (natch).... "look at what's happened to me...." am i right? :p

When they first announced that Jamie Foxx was going to be last night's mentor, I was super skeptical, but he turned out to be one of the best mentors this season. I don't think any of them would have been as good as they were without his help.

For me, Kris's performance was memorable primarily because of the song he sang. I certainly hope he makes it at least to the top three. And if his dimples win him some votes, all the better. :D (On a side note, I voted for him a few times, but dimples played no part in my decision.)

In some of the past seasons, Matt and Allison could have been front-runners, but in this field, they are simply lost in the crowd, and I just don't think they have the fan base, like you mentioned. Contrary to Randy's proclamation, American Idol has always been and will always be more than just a singing competition.

Since I don't frequent the forums, I had never heard the last spot called the "pimp spot" before. That's hilarious! It totally has been the prime spot. I, too, would be shocked if Adam doesn't end up the ultimate winner. Even if the judges were to suddenly turn on him, he would still prevail. (Honestly, I can't see that happening. Kara and Paula are smitten with him.)

And I like your suggestions for TV Theme Song night! If only they listened to our ideas. :)
