In just a matter of minutes, the final eight contestants will be performing to keep their dreams of fame and fortune alive. Tonight's episode will be a swift sixty minutes of singing. It shall happen all so quickly, I can only hope my eyes, ears, brain, and fingers are fast enough to keep up.

love your commentary as usual here is mine:

danny: the love boat version! lol! that is right on. i too, was thinking "cruise shippy" the whole time.

kris: singing don henley in the style of donna summer. not liking the disco. tired of simon's catchphrase "indulgent" though. shrug

lil rounds: singing it like tina turner, down to the voice inflection. i agree, too copycat. not original enough. *yawn*

anoop: not as bad as last week, but he's not the best singer in the competition. although i did enjoy his performance, either way, i am no longer emotionally invested in his fate in the competition

scott: i did not know he could play guitar. despite what the judges said, i actually liked his performance. i like that he did demonstrate versatility and that he didn't go with his usual "safe" ballads. it was a risky move for him, but i was pleasantly surprised with the result. that being said, i really can't see him winning this thing at all. i don't know what america is seeing though.

allison: nothing much to say about this. she's a great singer and is very reminiscent of kelly clarkson! but the question is, does america want 2 kelly clarksons? can we handle it?

matt: first of all, i hate that song, "part-time lover." he already has that going against him due to song choice alone. did he sing it bad? no. but it's not going to be one of the performances i'm really going to remember. and i really like matt!

adam: omg, what a *shock* that he performed the gary jules version of "mad world." / sarcasm :p but seriously, it was good, and i expected no less. he is by far the best performer, artist and singer in the competition. i love watching him perform every single week!

overall, i am liking this group way, way beyond better than last season.

btw, david. you are so lucky that you watch this live!!!! AI screwed me over again this week by going over. tivo cut off BEFORE adam's performance! i had to catch it on youtube. my opinion on this is that 4 judges is a bad idea. they rarely had this issue when it was only 3. they've got to do something about the timing of the show for it's getting very ridiculous.

i think either anoop or kris might be in danger tonight. i agree though, scott is overdue for his video package send-off. thank God i'm planning to record hell's kitchen tonight or i might miss the end of AI again. :\

This year's group is much stronger than last year's batch. I think it's because this group has more artists, not just singers. At least half of them play instruments and have the ability to arrange music, something that wasn't as apparent with past groups (although they may have been just as talented).

That said, this year's group isn't immune to picking awful songs, as evidenced by last night's performances. I'm really hoping Danny, Kris, and Matt come up with better songs next week (assuming they all make it through), and avoid anything related to cruise ships or Donna Summers. (By the way, great commentary, too!)

I'm sorry Tivo cut out on you before Adam performed. It really is because of the extra time given for the extraneous fourth judge. They should either let one of them go or randomly choose which 3 get to give a critique after each performance.

If Kris ends up with the least number of votes, I think there's a good chance the judges will save him.
