Live Blogging the Heroes Season Premiere
I had hoped to blog the premiere of Heroes as it happened, but I'm apparently one of those people who gets so caught up in a show that I forget to type as the action progresses. Normally, I would rely on commercials to catch up, but since last night's show had "limited" commercial interruptions, that wasn't possible.
What follows are the notes (with timestamps) from last night's show. If you haven't watched it and don't want to know what happened (or, more accurately, what I think happened), then it's probably best to stop reading right now. Also, if you want a better or funnier recap of the episode, it's best to check out Heroes Wiki or Television Without Pity.
The notes begin below the fold...
9:00 PM -- Freshly showered and in comfortable clothes, I'm ready to watch Heroes.
9:03 PM -- Three minutes in and Mohinder Suresh is speaking about the "Shanti virus" that killed his sister and can potentially kill others will special abilities. It looks like Stephen Tobolowsky is a new guest star. He plays a bumbling character named Bob. It's a stretch, I know.
9:05 PM -- Two new characters! Maya and Alejandro, brother and sister, are on the run in Mexico (I believe), chased by some less-than-pleasant armed individuals. They're trying to escape across the border, but why? The Spanish subtitles are yellow, unlike the white Japanese subtitles. Is that a clue?
9:07 PM -- Claire and Noah Bennet (HRG) are at a new high school in California. They're starting over as the Butler family. Claire was told to lay low, but she isn't doing a very good job of it. A nickel says she breaks at least one bone before the end of the show.
9:09 PM -- Matt Parkman is back in action, participating in a police raid, which is actually a detective exam. A little telepathy and he passes. He's moving rather well for somebody who was shot four times just four months ago.
9:12 PM -- Hiro!! He's in feudal Japan, stuck in a field between a masked horseman and a row of archers. There's the eclipse. The archers shower Hiro with arrows. Okay, three arrows aren't really a shower. Technically, they drizzle him with arrows. He stops time to save himself and the masked horseman he believes is Takezo Kensai, his hero.
9:16 PM -- Parkman seems to have taken custody of Molly, the girl with the ability to locate anybody anywhere. He's now divorced and she has started drawing disturbing pictures in school.
9:18 PM -- Ando!! He hands Hiro's father (played by George Takei) a newspaper. As Mr. Nakamura flips through it, a death threat in the form of an old photo of him with a bloody helix on it slips out. I hate when that happens.
9:20 PM -- Nathan Petrelli with a full mustache and beard comes home drunk. His life is in shambles. His wife has left him and he hasn't gotten over the death of his brother. He argues with his mother, Angela, and kicks her out. She receives her very own helix death threat in the hallway. Who is after the older generation?
9:23 PM -- Takezo Kensai isn't as Japanese as Hiro or we were led to believe.
9:28 PM -- Bob works for The Company (HRG's former firm) that represents the older generation of heroes with a vested interest in Suresh's research. It appears Bob has the power of aurification (a.k.a. the Midas touch).
9:34 PM -- Maya and Alejandro are apparently looking for Dr. Suresh, but they just hit a snag with the men smuggling them across the border.
9:36 PM -- There's a bit of chemistry between Claire and a fellow classmate named West, who believes everybody is either an alien or a robot. She's failing miserably in the laying low department. She just confronted the head cheerleader in the gymnasium and vowed to do a back flip from "the tower". I feel a nickel coming.
9:38 PM -- Noah Bennet lays down the law at his new paper company job. Apparently, none of the Bennetts can lay low for long.
9:42 PM -- Hiro confronts Takezo, who is actually an Englishman and is nothing like the hero Hiro read about. It seems our time traveler "broke" history by saving the warrior from the arrows. It also seems Takezo is expressing his dissatisfaction with a fist to Hiro's head.
9:44 PM -- Parkman eavesdrops on Molly's nightmare. This part of the story has a very Lord of the Rings feel to it. Is Sauron the one who is able to see Molly?
9:45 PM -- I just earned my nickel.
9:50 PM -- After a rather lengthy commercial interruption, we finally find out that HRG is still working with Mohinder to bring down The Company from the inside.
9:55 PM -- It seems Maya has an awful power: the ability to kill people with the plague. Not one of your friendlier abilities. And they're headed for America. Only good things can happen from this, I can tell.
9:57 PM -- Freaky moment as Claire talks on the phone with Nathan. When he looks in the mirror, he sees the burnt face of Peter. Is he hallucinating? And it appears that West has the ability to fly.
9:58 PM -- Poor Mr. Nakamura. He's taken down by a mystery killer. Ando returns with a sword just in time to avoid taking a fall, too.
10:00 PM -- Peter!! He appears to be in a cargo box in a shipyard somewhere in Cork, Ireland with a better haircut and no idea who he is. I'll tally that as an improvement.
10:01 PM -- Previews of Sylar in a Hawaiian shirt! That bodes well, right?
This concludes the live blog of the Heroes season premiere. I hope you enjoyed your nap. Please come again.
