Mid-2004
According to the calendar pinned on the cubicle wall, the year is half over. I would say it's hard to believe, but I've had six months to accept the fact. There is something exciting about turning the page to the next month. There's a fresh photo to stare at while you"re at work, one likely showing cute animals, shiny automobiles or scantly-clad supermodels beautiful landscapes. There are new holidays to look forward to or question like, "Why don't we get Canada Day off?" or "How come we never celebrate the First Manned Moon Landing?" It means another batch of bills, but hopefully a paycheck or two to pay for them. It also means another set of cell phone minutes, if you buy into such plans. A brand new month offers us 30 or 31 clean, unused days (except for stingy February) for new opportunities and adventures in one shrink-wrapped, easy-to-carry package.
Today is Thursday, but it's a Friday to me. With a vacation day and holiday, this will be a four-day weekend. I'm stoked. It's an excellent way to start July.

I tend to get a lot of "Buffy" calendars, and if the month has Willow (Alyson Hannigan) or some of the other lovelies, I do tend to stay on it longer, especially if the next month is Spike or Xander.
This one's a toughie. June was Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg) and July is Sarah Michelle Gellar. Trachtenberg's old enough now to lust after, right? Oh, well maybe not at the time the pictures were taken. Damn, was that out loud? Shoot! I mistyped, I meant to say, um, "dust" after, since these computer fans blow dust everywhere, even on the calendars.
Yeah.
Heh, you have to go with Gellar this month! It's Buffy after all. :D I've never been much of a Dawn fan, but Willow was definitely cool. Hmm... if I were to get a TV-related calendar, it would have to be a combination of Smallville and Everwood: pretty people in the small town settings or with views of Colorado in the backdrop. :)
My wife was a fan of Everwood for a while, but I never got into it, and she eventually dropped it as the TiVo was getting full.
Well, perhaps partly due to procrastination and inertia, and perhaps partly because my closest brush with a celebrity was when the wife and I literally bumped into Michelle Trachtenberg at the Getty Museum several months ago (and nothing at all to do with the fact that I'm a perverted old fogey), but the calendar, for now, remains on Dawn.
The month after Gellar is Xander (Nick Brendan), and nothing against the guy, but I'll probably make up for the lateness by staying on Gellar well into August. Wow, what an efficient and effective use of a calendar, constantly leaving up last month's page. I'm constantly glancing up to find a day and then realizing it's the wrong month.
