Sometimes I'm drawn to movies for no other reason than who is starring in them. It's completely ridiculous, but there are some people I apparently find so irresistibly captivating, I can't help but waste money to see their latest project. Most of the time, it turns out to be horribly mindless material. On some occasions, my curiosity is richly rewarded with fine film entertainment.
Here are the top 5 movies I want to see simply because of the actors themselves:
- Lost In The Translation (Bill Murray)
- Once Upon A Time In Mexico (Johnny Depp)
- The Rundown (The Rock)
- Under the Tuscan Sun (Diane Lane, Sandra Oh)
- Underworld (Kate Beckinsale)

Sometimes, I'm exactly like that for the people who worked on the film(s).
Like...<ul><li><i>Sleepy Hollow</i> and <i>American Beauty</i> (Conrad Hall, cinematographer)
<li><i>Spy Kids 3</i> and <i>Once Upon a Time in Mexico</i> (Robert Rodriguez, Writer/Director/Editor)
<li><i>The Talented Mr. Ripley</i> (Walter Murch, Editor)</li></li></li></ul>
I know those aren't all recent films, but they are excellent examples. :)
"lost in translation" was excellent. you will not be disappointed. oh, and besides bill murray, scarlett johansson was very good in it.
Courtney, I'm trying to think of similar people and films. The only ones that come quickly to mind are Ang Lee (<i>The Hulk</i>, <i>The Ice Storm</i>) and the Coen brothers (<i>O Brother, Where Art Thou?</i>, <i>Fargo</i>). I'm looking forward to the brothers' <i>Intolerable Cruelty</i>.
gg, I'm definitely planning to see that film before it leaves the Camera One theater. :)
Oh oh, of course, the Cohen Brothers!
How could I forget?
And of course, Hayao Miyazaki. :)
