About This Person
What do I want to tell you about myself?
First, my name is David Ohlson1 and I live near San Jose, California in the United States. If you don't know where San Jose is, it's about 60 miles south of San Francisco.
Like a lot of people in Silicon Valley, I'm an engineer, but unlike most of them, I don't work for a high tech company.
I've been blogging since October 2002, which I would say is an average amount of time as far as online journaling is concerned (or roughly a quarter of my life as far as my life is concerned).
Unlike professional or more recent blogs, mine doesn't focus on any particular topic. I write about whatever interests me or whatever comes to mind. Most days that's a good thing. Some days, a set focus would help, no doubt.
What else? I'm in my mid-thirties. I'm married and soon to be a father. I'm multiracial - an American of Chinese and Swedish descent. Most importantly, though, I'm someone who loves to laugh, but loves to make other people laugh more.
To preserve a small portion of the previous About Me page, here is an incomplete list of things I can't get enough of...
automating processes, baseball, book and music stores, Boston, Brandi Carlisle, camping, Capitola, Carmel, chinese broccoli, Cinequest, clever parodies/satires, clever quotes or sayings, coffee, coffeehouse performances, Edward Grieg, Firefly, Hawaiian music, hiking, history, Jane Austen, Joseph Haydn, Ken Burns documentaries, libraries, lighthouses, Los Gatos, M, Matchbox Twenty, most things Disney, musicals, mythology, national parks, overcast days, P.G. Wodehouse, Peanuts, piano, Pixar, Point Reyes, proper punctuation, Pushing Daisies, reading, sabermetrics, Salzburg, simple living, simulations, Skittles, Snow Patrol, statistics, sunny days, Terry Pratchett, The All-American Rejects, the beach, The Beach Boys, The Lord of the Rings, the truth, web design, Weezer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, writing, Yosemite
That's pretty much it. Should anybody ask, this page was last updated on 4 February 2010. You can write to me at david at randomcuriosity dot com.
Thank you for reading and come back soon,
David
1 Until very recently, I thought it unwise to divulge my last name, believing the exclusion would somehow provide a layer of anonymity, but after serious reflection, I decided it best to share my full identity to prevent people from mistaking my shyness for shame.
About This Site
Random Curiosity is hosted by Dreamhost and managed using Movable Type. It was built using an assortment of tools, but the most recent one has been Coda. The current typeface is Garamond, but that is likely to change. Photographs and doodles (a.k.a. aspiring illustrations) found on this site are by me (I take full blame).
